Drill String Failure Prevention Course
Course Information
Duration: 2 Days
Designed For
This course is primarily for rig teams and drilling engineers. Materials and asset control teams, MWD and FEWD staff and other personnel associated with drilling assemblies also greatly benefit.
Course Content
The course concentrates on recognising drill string failure mechanisms, covering what the crews can do to minimise the risk of a failure occurring and the correct handling of the drill string to prevent expensive remedial work. Using the acronym of P.R.I.D.E.
The following areas are covered with an emphasis on rig site inspections and rig operations:
- Properties ‐ A basic overview of the metallurgical and mechanical attributes manufactured into the drill string.
- Rig operations ‐ The practical application of cleaning, inspecting, doping, make up and all aspects of rig site operations.
- Inspection ‐ The level and type of inspection required on drill string equipment to minimise the risk of failure.
- Design ‐ A basic overview of what design is and how the drill crew can contribute to its effectiveness i.e. stiffness ratio, bending strength ratio.
- Environment ‐ Identifies the chemical and mechanical environments and conditions that can shorten the life of drill string components.
The courses are very interactive, making them a pleasant learning experience.
Course Pre‐Qualification
Although there are no specific requirements for attendance on this course, the course is technical in nature and intended for those who may or may not have some initial experience of a rig site and oil industry work.
A certificate will be issued on satisfactory completion of the training.
